Support Our Programs & Events

Woman Development Institute (WDI) offers expert-led workshops, training, and opportunities for networking and mentoring to help prepare attendees for success and leadership within their workplace and their community. All WDI programming aims to level the playing field for women, youth, and families who might otherwise be excluded from learning opportunities due to financial, cultural, or language barriers. Typical program offerings are outlined below. 

 

Extraordinary Woman Fundraising Gala - Since 2001, this annual event celebrates extraordinary women from diverse backgrounds, recognizing their unique contributions to the community. Funds raised support free programming offered by WDI throughout the year. 

 

Because I Am A Woman Conference - Takes place annually in honor of International Women’s Day to level the playing field for women who might otherwise be excluded from learning opportunities. Through expert-led workshops, training, panel discussions, and opportunities for networking and mentoring, attendees are prepared for leadership within their workplace and their community.

 

Empowering Single Mothers: 

  • Single Mothers: Realities and Challenges - This conference supports young mothers through the emotional struggles, social stigmas, and economic challenges they may encounter. The event creates a safe atmosphere for attendees to share their personal struggles and seek guidance and solutions. 

  • Proactive Single Mothers - This mentoring program provides support for single mothers, and offers training and continuing education to increase the opportunities available to this segment of the community. 
     

Empowering Youth: 

  • Inspiration Youth - This program highlights the accomplishments of outstanding young people who are currently attending college or who have already graduated to inspire young people to continue their education and follow their dreams.

  • Extraordinary Women of the Future and Young Men of Value - In partnership with the Central Falls and Providence School Districts, this initiative empowers young Latinos by helping them to build essential personal, social and leadership skills. Upon completion, participants are well-positioned to reach their potential, utilizing their new professional network to become community leaders and help create transformative community change.

 

Financial Literacy - Provides participants with practical knowledge, skill-building opportunities, and resources to manage their finances with confidence, paving the way to financial stability and wealth.

 

Love Is Paid By Love - Strengthening Emotional Ties Between Mothers And Daughters - This program provides education and support to strengthen connections and improve communication within families.

 

Elder of Grace - This program strengthens intergenerational relationships by providing opportunities for connection and recreation, and increases awareness about resources, opportunities and benefits available for the elderly. 

 

Rally for Peace - In partnership with the RI Coalition Against Domestic Violence, this rally amplifies the work of community organizations and advocates for individuals from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds affected by violence. The day includes recreational activities for the whole family, as well as expert-led workshops on topics such as family and gang violence, substance abuse, bullying, and weapons.
